Two men caught on CCTV driving over Melbourne tradesman with his own trailer

A 53-year-old Melbourne grandfather has spoken about the terrifying moment he was run over by his own trailer as it was driven away by thieves.

Just after 6am on April 9, tradesman John spotted thieves driving his trailer in Cambria Road in Keysborough, south-east of Melbourne.

He followed them for a few minutes along Cheltenham Road where they pulled into a laneway.

When he tried to stop the men from getting away he was run over, and the men escaped on Kirkham Road West.

"They would have known they'd run me over, plus they would have heard the trailer when it went banging and crashing over the top of me," John said.

Detective Senior Constable Amy Perrin said it was "quite horrible" to see what John went through just trying to get his own property back.

John suffered serious leg injuries. The thieves have been on the run since the incident.

The thieves are described as being aged in their 30s, and were wearing hoodies at the time.
