Glass-wielding teen fought off by 84-year-old armed with wooden axe handle
An elderly man has been injured after arming himself with a wooden axe handle to fight off a glass-wielding teen in Sydney's west.
The 84-year-old man was sitting in his car in the driveway of his Mt Druitt home on Tuesday afternoon, when the teen approached him armed with a broken bottle and demanding money.
The man told the teenager he had some money inside the house and walked into the garage, with the youth following closely behind.
Once inside the garage, the older man grabbed an axe handle and struck the teenager in the leg.
The teen then hurled the broken bottle at the man's back before fleeing empty handed.
Emergency services were called and the older man received treatment to the wound at the local medical centre.
A police investigation is now underway.
