‘As for work ... we’re done’: Couple wins $40 million Powerball jackpot

A middle-aged couple say they will retire immediately after winning the entire $40 million Powerball jackpot on Thursday night.

The pair from Kenmore in Brisbane swore as they were told the news in a phone call, according to lottery officials The Lott.

“Are you kidding me? I can’t believe this. My heart is racing,” the man said, his wife adding that “this can’t be real” and saying they were joking when the phone rang that it might be regarding the lottery.

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1575 on Thursday, July 23 were 12, 27, 7, 18, 30, 11 and 34. The Powerball was 16.

As well as the entire $40 million jackpot, the couple won the second division 19 times, adding more than $700,000 extra to their total winnings.

“I’m stoked. I feel like crying,” the man, whose actual age was not provided, said, according to The Lott.

“This changes everything for us.

“I’ve dreamt of this, but never imagined this happening to us.

“We’ll pay off the mortgage and set up the kids and family.

“As for work ... we’re done. We were just saying the other day, ‘Isn’t there more to life than this?’ And now there is and we’re going to enjoy it to the full and make the most of it.”
