The broadcasting watchdog has found Sydney radio station 2Day FM breached the industry code when it broadcast its "royal prank" call.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority on Wednesday released a report into the 2012 incident in which two presenters made a hoax call to the London hospital where the Duchess of Cambridge was being treated for severe morning sickness.

The authority, which will now consider what sanctions it should apply, found 2Day FM had breached a clause which prohibits people from being treated in a highly demeaning or exploitative manner.

However it determined the station did not breach decency and privacy obligations.
