The most dangerous countries in the world in 2025 are here, and half are in the Americas while two are in the Middle East.
New research from Numbeo, a quality-of-life metrics platform, ranks 146 countries based on public perceptions of crime in each nation.
Surveys evaluated general perception of crime levels, perceived safety, concerns about specific crimes, property crimes, and violent crimes.
Andorra, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Taiwan, and Oman made up the top five of the rankings, with Australia coming in at 82nd and the United Kingdom at 87th.

10. Peru
Best known for the ruins of Machu Picchu, Peru was the tenth least safe nation in 2025.
Like the other nations on this list, Peru has high levels of violent crime.
9. Jamaica
Despite its idyllic beaches and lush natural environment, Jamaica ranked as the ninth most dangerous country in terms of perceived crime levels in the world.
8. Syria
Syria came in eighth on this list, largely due to ongoing civil conflict.
Due to its volatile security situation, foreigners are advised against visiting Syria at the current time, as they put themselves at risk of airstrikes, kidnappings, terrorism, and armed clashes.
7. Trinidad and Tobago
Located off the coast of South America, the island of Trinidad and Tobago has high crime rates including gang violence, robberies, and home invasions.
For this, it comes in seventh on this list.
6. Honduras
The Central American nation of Honduras has high violent crime rates, with homicide, armed robbery, and kidnapping not uncommon in the country.
5. South Africa
These stunning beaches and rugged landscape may look enticing, but South Africa remains fairly dangerous according to Numbeo's data.
South Africa has a long history of violence, particularly with the legacy of the Apartheid regime.
Today, high crime rates persist, underpinned by systemic issues.
4. Afghanistan
Afghanistan has a long and difficult history with crime and violence, largely due to terrorist groups.
Travellers are currently advised not to visit Afghanistan due to the high threat of terrorism and kidnapping in the country.
